Day of The Zombie

EXT. WOODS/FOREST AT DUSK
Wide shot of woods. Slowly zooms through trees until it reaches the Bonfire.
Brittany VO: You never really know what fear is until life flashes before your eyes. There’s always a sense of being afraid, of being alone. NEVER, though, of the soul-crushing, heart-dropping -fear- that says, “You are going to die today, and so will everyone you love.” I hope that no person ever experiences this: the final realization that there is NO hope. That the world that you’re living in is gone and that you must live and survive in a world that’s no longer what it seems. The only thing worse than knowing that you have to do this, is doing it alone. Being alone symbolizes that you are the only one in a world that means nothing. With people, you have hope. Where’s the hope, when you are struggling to live and there is nothing and nobody worth living for?
Bonfire is in a clearing surrounded by trees. Logs/seating place around bonfire. Amber, Cole, Paige, and Brittany are gathered around the bonfire.
Cole is telling a story. The girls are all on the edge of their seats(metaphorically). Brittany and Paige are more scared then Amber.
Cole: (In storytelling fashion) And then. The hideous, bloody creature creeped up and. GRABBED HER.
(Brittany and Paige scream and hide their faces.)
Cole: (violently) He tore her to shreds. Leaving nothing behind but dust. (calmly) The mystery of the missing girl was never solved. (Creepily) But once a year, the monster lurks this very forest, looking for his next victim.
Brittany and Paige are scared. Amber and Cole start laughing. Brittany’s face drops.
Brittany: (somewhat annoyed) Cole! Why would you tell a story like that?! You’re scaring Paige!
Amber: Come on you guys. It’s just a story! Nothing to be scared about! (mischievously laughs.)
Brittany: (annoyed) What time are your parents getting back?
Amber: About 7 or 8.
Brittany: (Starts standing up) We should head back to your place.
(Group stands up after her)
(Cole kicks dirt on the fire and the group heads back to house.)
EXT. WOODS AREA
Low shot of feet walking. Slowly pans up to see rest of the group. The group is discussing the story in a joking manner.
Cole: (teasing) Did my story actually freak you guys out?
Paige: I wasn’t scared!
Cole: Then why’d you scream?
Paige: Because Brittany screamed and it freaked me out!
Brittany: Sure just blame it on me...
Paige: (Sassy) I’m not scared of your lame story, Cole. (Proud) I’m not scared of anything!
EXT. OUTSIDE HOUSE
There is a moment of silence and the group hears a rustling and a strange noise coming from the tree line across the yard.
Amber: Hey, did you guys hear that?
Brittany: Hear what?
Another rustling and groan comes from the forest.
Amber: Let’s go see what it is you guys!
Brittany: We should just go inside. It’s getting late.
Cole: What are you afraid??
Brittany gets an offended look and is about to defend herself when Paige interrupts.
Paige: Well I’M not scared. (Starts heading to the woods.)
Brittany: (catches up and grabs her by the arm.) Woah Woah Woah. Where do you think you’re going?
Paige: To see what made that noise.
Brittany: Um. No. You’re going inside. (turns to group) We are ALL going inside.
Amber: Calm down, Brittany. Nothing bad is gonna happen. (Subtly lays hand on hunting knife attached to her belt.)
Brittany: (Forcefully) Fine. But Paige, (turns to look specifically at her) you’re staying here.
Paige: But..
Brittany: No buts. Go inside and WAIT THERE.
Paige sighs and goes inside. The others start heading to the woods.
CLOSE UP PAIGE THROUGH WINDOW
Paige looks out the window jealously
WIDE SHOT YARD
Group disappears into the woods.
CLOSE UP PAIGE THROUGH WINDOW
Paige decides to show how brave she is. Smiles mischievously.
WIDE SHOT DOOR
Paige sneaks out of the back door and starts following the group from a far distance.
WIDE SHOT YARD
Paige disappearing into the woods after the group.
WALKING THROUGH THE WOODS
Brittany: Does anyone know exactly what we’re looking for?
Amber: Nope.. That’s the fun part.
Brittany: Maybe we should go home. It’s getting dark and I don’t want to leave Paige alone for too long.
Cole: You are way too protective or Paige. She’ll be just fine by herself.
Scream pierces the air.
Brittany: (completely terrified) PAIGE!
Brittany breaks from the group.
RUNNING SHOT
Brittany runs lost through the woods towards the noise.
Brittany stops lost and not knowing where to go.
SPINS SLOWLY AROUND BRITTANY THEN CLOSES IN ON HER FACE
Brittany: PAIGE?!
Paige: (Terrified) BRITTANY! HELP ME!
EMPTY FOREST
Brittany realizes where the sound is coming from.jhhj
RUNNING SHOT
Brittany starts running again. Then suddenly stops when she reaches a clearing.
WIDE SHOT BRITTANY
Brittany has a terrified look on her face. Then lets out a scream.
WIDE SHOT PAIGE AND ZOMBIE
The Zombie is attacking Paige but at the sound of Brittany’s scream he abandons Paige and starts towards Brittany.
WIDE SHOT OF CLEARING
Brittany: Paige are you ok?!
Brittany tries to go to Paige, who is on the ground, but gets cut off by the zombie.
CLOSE UP ZOMBIE AND BRITTANY
The zombie lurches at Brittany and she screams. Brittany is able to hold the zombie back but isn’t able to get to Paige.
Brittany: Paige are you ok?! Paige! Answer me!
CLOSE UP ON BRITTANY
The zombie is about to get the best Brittany when Amber comes up behind the zombie and stabs it. Blood splatters on Brittany’s face. Shock runs through Brittany as the zombie falls away from her momentarily stunned.
WIDE SHOT OF CLEARING
Brittany: (Shocked and stuttering) Amber. What-what-what did you do?!
Amber: That thing isn’t human Brittany! Look, it’s still moving.
CLOSE UP ZOMBIE ON THE GROUND
Amber kicks the zombie and it begins to move again.
WIDE SHOT AMBER AND BRITTANY
Amber: Let’s go.
Amber gives the zombie one last good kick to keep it from ruining their escape. The 2 turn to go back to the house.
WIDE SHOT COLE AND PAIGE
Cole is now carrying Paige. Paige is barely awake.
Brittany runs up to Cole and Paige, Amber is only slightly behind her.
Brittany: Paige? Are you ok? Paige?
Cole: She’s fine Brittany, just let her rest.
Amber: We really need to get home. It’s getting dark and that thing is going to start moving again real soon.
WIDE SHOT HOUSE/YARD
The group emerges from the tree line and starts walking to the house.
Amber: Oh man my parents are going to freak when they get home.
Brittany: Who cares?! Is Paige ok?
Cole: She’s going to be fineee. Stop worrying.
Brittany: (Yelling/angry) LOOK AT HER! SHE’S BLEEDING!
WIDE SHOT DOOR
Cole comes into the house carrying Paige. Brittany is anxiously behind him and Amber is trying to hold her back so that Cole and Paige have space.
WIDE SHOT COUCH/LIVING AREA
Cole gently sets Paige down on the couch. Brittany rushes to her and tries to comfort her but she is still unconscious.
CLOSE UP SHOT AMBER AND COLE
Amber and Cole are talking about Paige and Brittany in hushed, urgent voices.
Amber: What are we going to do?!
Cole: Why do anything? She’s just bleeding a little bit. She’s going to be fine.
Amber: (astonished) Did you SEE that thing that attacked her? There is something not right about this (stutters) thing. We need to find help for her. NOW.
Brittany: Just go. We’ll be fine here. But hurry back.
Amber and Cole sigh but leave the house anyway.
Amber: (right before going through the door) Don’t go outside until we can figure out what’s going on.
Amber shuts door and leaves Brittany alone with Paige.
WIDE SHOT COUCH.
Brittany leaning on the couch whispering to Paige. Paige is passed out.
Brittany: Everything is going to be ok Paige. Cole and Amber went to get help. Just wake up. Wake up. Come on Paige.
Paige groans. Brittany feels her forehead and realized she’s warm.
Brittany: You seem warm. Stay here while I get you a cold rag for your forehead.
Paige makes a noise. Brittany sighs and leaves the room.
WIDE SHOT KITCHEN
Brittany starts looking through all the drawers for a washcloth. Starts pulling stuff out of drawers desperately looking. Brittany sighs in frustration and walks into a different room.
WIDE SHOT LAUNRY ROOM
Brittany digging through a pile of dirty clothes. Finds a old shirt and rips part of it off.
WIDE SHOT KITCHEN
Brittany walks in and goes to sink.
CLOSE UP SINK
Brittany is wetting the piece of cloth.
WIDE SHOT LIVING ROOM
Couch is empty. Brittany walks into the room and looks around curiously.
WIDE SHOT BRITTANY
Brittany: Paige?
CLOSE UP PAIGE
Brittany sees Paige curled up in a corner.
Paige: groans
WIDE SHOT CORNER
Brittany: Paige? Are you ok?
Brittany walks closer to see if Paige is ok.
Paige turns and lurches at Brittany knocking her off her feet.
Brittany: Screams
CLOSE UP BRITTANY
Brittany scrambles back trying to stay away from the attacking Paige.
WIDE SHOT BRITTANY
Brittany: (Screaming) Paige?! What are you doing?! Stop!
Paige: continues to groan and growl and attack Brittany.
CLOSE UP ATTACK
Brittany and Paige continue to wrestle.
CLOSE UP BRITTANY
Brittany gets backed up against the fireplace and grabs a fire stoker. She points it at Paige.
WIDE SHOT BRITTANY
Brittany: Paige, don’t make me do this! I don’t want to hurt you!
CLOSE UP PAIGE
Paige: tries to attack again.
WIDE SHOT ATTACK
Brittany: Paige, please stop it!
Paige: Tries to attack once more.
CLOSE UP BRITTANY
Crying, Brittany comes to the realization that Paige is no longer herself, and she must be killed.
UNDECIDED
Brittany: With the fire stoker, stabs Paige with all she’s got.
They both topple to ground. Paige is significantly slowed down and stops trying to move so much. Brittany grabs Paige as if she’s dying.
Paige is still alive, on account of she’s a zombie and can’t be killed that way. She is slower now and just groans and squirms in Brittany’s arms.
Brittany: Paige. What’s happened to you?
CLOSE UP PAIGE/BRITTANY
Paige doesn’t respond and just lets out an inhuman noise. Brittany starts crying and stroking her little sister’s hair.
Brittany: Please Paige. Get better. Please.
CLOSE UP PAIGE
Paige turns to look at Brittany with cold undead eyes, making inhuman noises. Blood trickles/spills out of her mouth.
CLOSE UP BRITTANY
Brittany’s brain slams into a terrifying realization that Paige is nothing anymore. She is dead and there is no saving her.
WIDE SHOT PAIGE/BRITTANY
Brittany suddenly stands up, dropping Paiges awkwardly dead body.
WIDE SHOT DOOR
Brittany runs into another room.
WIDE SHOT OTHER SIDE OF DOOR
Brittany slams the door and locks it.
CLOSE UP BRITTANY
Brittany looks at her self in the mirror and realizes everything has changed. She wipes away all her tears and blood that is covering her face.
Brittany: Get ahold of yourself.
Brittany gets frustrated and screams at her reflection. She starts pacing the bathroom when she hears a groan come from the other room.
She looks up from her thoughts, startled. She stares at the door separating her from her zombified sister.
Brittany runs into the other room that the bathroom connects to. Right as she does there is a bang on the window.
CLOSE UP WINDOW
There is a group of zombies staring in at her, groaning.
WIDE SHOT BRITTANY (start epilogue)
She looks down at herself and realizes she’s covered in blood. She heads to the closet.
CLOSE UP FEET
Brittany is lacing up her boots. (wearing a new outfit)
WIDE SHOT CLOSET/BRITTANY
Brittany grabs a heavy duty flash light from the closet and tucks it into her belt. She finds a semi-large knife, weighs it in her hand then tucks in into her boot. The she sees a baseball bat, grabs it, and rests it on her shoulder.
WIDE SHOT ROOM
Brittany walks over to the window.
CLOSE UP BRITTANY/WINDOW
Brittany places hand near wear the zombie is pressed against the window. A single tear rolls down her cheek.
Brittany: (pause in epilogue) I guess this is goodbye.
CLOSE UP BRITTANY
Brittany sighs and wipes away her tear.
WIDE SHOT DOOR
Brittany is leaving the room.
WIDE SHOT LIVING ROOM
Brittany stomps over to the window and looks out. The backyard is clear so she exits through the back door.
WIDE SHOT BACK YARD
Brittany is walking away, baseball bat in hand. She looks over her shoulder once then just keeps walking away from the house and the zombies.
Brittany VO (epilogue): Sometimes your brain can’t keep up with the world around you. Then, everything stops cold, and you realize that the world is spinning 1000 miles per hour. Leaving you in the dust to fend for yourself, nobody left to lean on. You have to mold yourself into someone new. Someone capable of making important decisions. When you make the decision to live, it diminishes fear, destroys it, cuts it’s last breath short. That’s the decision that I’ve made. The decision to survive. No matter the cost.

This was our final copy of the script we were going to use a film with but that obviously didn't happen but incase you wanted to read it but it's pretty flipping amazing thanks to Alissa and the rest of our input too.
